Yellow Diamond Ring to Lead Bonhams Sale

Yellow Diamond Ring to Lead Bonhams Sale

A 10.19-carat yellow diamond ring will lead an upcoming auction at Bonhams in London, where it is set to fetch up to GBP 160,000 (approximately $199,300).

Bonhams will offer the radiant-cut, fancy-intense-yellow, VS1-clarity stone, set between shield-cut diamond shoulders, at its December 7 London Jewels auction, it said Tuesday.

Two additional yellow diamonds for sale include a brilliant-cut, 10.02-carat, fancy-yellow diamond single-stone ring and a step-cut, 8.45-carat, fancy-yellow diamond ring accented by four pear-shaped diamonds set between baguette and step-cut diamond shoulders. Both pieces carry estimates of GBP 50,000 to GBP 70,000 (approximately $62,300 to $87,200).

The 149-lot auction will also feature pieces from multiple single-owner private collections, spanning from 1870 to the modern day. These comprise jewels from Cartier, Bulgari, Graff, Moussaieff, Van Cleef & Arpels, Harry Winston, Boucheron, Tiffany & Co., David Webb, and Grima.

Highlights from a single-owner private European collection are a Lalique Art Nouveau enamel, pâte-de-verre, sapphire and diamond pendant from around 1905 to 1915; a Cartier Panthère coral, emerald, onyx and diamond brooch, circa 1968; and a Cartier ruby and diamond clip and ear clip suite brooch combination that dates to about 1960.

Another collection, from a descendant of Dorothy Maud, Countess Haig, boasts a pearl and diamond tiara necklace presented to the countess by Queen Alexandra in 1905 on her marriage to General Haig.

Bonhams to Offer $100K Cartier Diamond Ring

Bonhams to Offer $100K Cartier Diamond Ring

A Cartier diamond ring is set to lead the upcoming Bonhams jewelry sale in California, where it is expected to bring in up to $100,000.

The center stone is a rectangular step-cut, 3.89-carat, H-color, VS2-clarity diamond flanked by tapered baguette emeralds. It’s the star of the July 18 California Jewels auction, Bonhams said Monday.

“The lots offered highlight craftsmanship from leading names in jewelry that will entice…aficionados and collectors everywhere,” noted Emily Waterfall, director of the jewelry department at Bonhams in Los Angeles.

The auction will feature a ring bearing an emerald-cut, 9.70-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, VS2-clarity diamond with an upper estimate of $90,000. A second ring, with a round brilliant-cut, 4.12-carat, F-color, VS2-clarity diamond, is expected to fetch up to $70,000.

Meanwhile, a platinum, diamond and sapphire Art Deco bracelet with a presale estimate of $20,000 to $30,000 will be on offer, as will a gold Mario Buccellati bracelet with a high price tag of $20,000. That piece is set with oval sapphire cabochons weighing a total of 4.50 carats, surrounded by rose-cut diamonds and accented by round diamonds weighing about 1.60 carats.

Jewels by well-known designers, including David Webb, Piaget, Tiffany & Co., and Van Cleef & Arpels, will also go under the hammer.

Bonhams Sells Every Jewel on Offer at New York Auction

Bonhams brought in $8.1 million at its Perfect Jewelry Box auction in New York as all 119 items found a buyer — in what the trade terms a “white-glove sale.”

The top piece was a 35-carat diamond ring by Leviev, which sold for $2.7 million at the March 8 event, beating its $2.5 million high estimate, the auction house said Wednesday.

“It was a privilege to present this collection, which had such a diverse mix of period jewels, rare gemstones and exceptional white diamonds,” said Caroline Morrissey, head of jewelry for Bonhams in New York. “Leading the sale were three type IIa, D-color diamonds, all over 10 carats, which is extremely rare. [The] results reflected the quality of the pieces offered.”

Here are the top five pieces:

This emerald-cut, 35-carat, D-color, VVS1-clarity diamond ring by Leviev is accented by round-brilliant cut diamonds weighing a total of 1.90 carats. The piece fetched $2.7 million, above its $2.5 million presale estimate.
A ring bearing an oval-shaped, 22.10-carat, D-color, VVS2-clarity diamond center stone, flanked by bullet-shaped diamonds, brought in $1.6 million, exceeding its $1.5 million upper price tag.

This ring contains a square emerald-cut, 11.37-carat, D-color, VVS2-clarity diamond, bracketed by tapered baguette-cut diamonds. The center stone has the potential to be internally flawless, Bonhams noted. It sold for $800,475, far surpassing its $550,000 high estimate.

A ring set with a rectangular-cut, 24.80-carat Ceylon sapphire accented by round brilliant-cut diamonds garnered $327,975, over its $300,000 upper price.

An Art Deco gem-set, diamond and enamel tassel necklace, created by Mauboussin in France circa 1920, achieved $277,575 against a high estimate of $250,000.
